For the third year running Redbox will be celebrating the New Year in style this time what we believe to be Tokyo’s most promising and active crews of 2009, Raft Tokyo.

To lead us into the New Year, we will feature 2 very special live acts on a monster Funktion-1 sound system at the sky-high Legato venue in Shibuya. We are very proud to present Berlin live duo Exercise One.

Exercise One are a true live act able to perform original material for periods of up to 5 hours synthesizing hypnotic atmospheric bass-lines and stripped-down techno and electronica. Having started primarly as a Live act and then moving into production and recording, we can only expect that to hear some of the hottest shit to ever hit Tokyo.

Due to the overwhelming popularity of the this event in the past 2 years (1200 people in 2007, 1500 in 2008), we are limiting entry to 800 people this year to keep the quality high and the space conformable.

今年は渋谷を一望できるベ ニューLegatoにて、最高のクオリティを誇るサウンドシステム”Funktion-1”と豪華ラインナップの数々とともに、2010年代の幕開けを祝 福する。何と今回はデビュー一年で瞬く間に東京のシーンに強烈なインパクトを与え、今もっとも精力的に活動し期待を裏切らないサウンドを提供してくれる” RAFT TOKYO”との共同開催！そしてゲストアクトは、陶酔感あふれるベースラインと、テッキーでエレクトリックなサウンドが持ち味の2人組” Exercise One”。3時間超のライブパフォーマンスをたやすくやってのけるそのバイタイリティの高さは、彼らが最高のパフォーマーであることを証明してくれてい る。ライブパフォーマンスからそのキャリアをスタートさせた彼らだが、ベルリンのレーベル”Mobilee Recordings”からリリースされている作品群のクオリティの高さも筆舌に尽くしがたい。当日はかつてないサウンドが会場を席巻するだろう。

毎年大盛況となっているこのイベント。今年は例年よりも早く21時にオープン。

Exercise One Biography 

DJs know them as crafters of cracking tracks on wax. Clubbers around the world know them as a live act that hurtles like a runaway train. But these statements tell only part of the story behind Exercise One, the Berlin- based duo comprised of Marco Freivogel and Ingo Gansera. Both seasoned musicians before they met, it didn’t take much before their respective backgrounds as live performers combined with the energy of Berlin to spawn an electronic music group with an unprecedented take on the creative process. After working alongside one another at a label, the two began producing and experimenting in their own free time, playing over ten live gigs before their first record release. This musical world-view— that production and live performance have a symbiotic relationship—has guided Exercise One on their journey from underground sensation to heavy-weights in the Berlin electronic music scene, with their evolution as artists going hand-in-hand with their development a live act. 

さまざまな作品のリミキサーとして、その名を轟かせ、破竹のごとく勢いのあるスタイルでライブパフォーマンスを行う彼ら。しかしその姿は、いずれも彼らのわずかな側面でしかない。ベルリンを拠点に活動するMarco FreivogelとIngo Ganseraからなるこの2人組。
2人は結成以前に、個々にそれなりのキャリアを築いていたが、グループを結成するやいなや、瞬く間にライブパフォーマーとしての地位を築き上げ、前代未聞の作品の数々を生み出した。リリースを重ねるにつれて、2人はさらに実験的なサウンドの作品をプロデュースするようになり、ファーストアルバムをリリースする前に、すでに10回以上のライブをこなしていた。彼らにとって、楽曲制作とライブパフォーマンスはほぼ同じ感覚に近い。ライブアクトとして成長していくうちに、彼らが持っていたアンダーグラウンドな感覚は、彼らをベルリンのエレクトロニックミュージックシーンでの最重要なポストへと導くまでに至らしめた。
